Who hasn’t had back pain? It is the most common health problem.
Very often, back pain is caused by muscle tension. Even herniated discs are often caused by chronically tense back muscles that put pressure on the vertebrae of the spine.
But why are our back muscles tense? Usually, the muscles are tense because we use them a lot – they very often contract for a very long time and can’t relax. The back muscles are used when we bend over and straighten repeatedly, when we carry weight regularly but also when we are exposed to positive stress:
When we have a lot of things to do, when we have to solve a problem quickly and move forward, we have a reflex reaction that makes us contract the muscles of the back. It’s the posture of the green light: “GO!”
While the anterior muscles of the body contract in response to danger and negative stress, it is the posterior muscles that contract when we are exposed to positive stress.
If the stress and contraction are repetitive, the muscles remain contracted, they shorten, hyperlordosis sets in in the lower back and a muscle imbalance follows. Then comes the pain.
The Back Lift is a very effective somatic exercise to relax the back muscles, relieve lower back pain and correct posture.
